Afterwards, the carpets are rinsed with hot water and sucked up with a high-pressure vacuum.
Which to chose?
Chances are, whichever one you chose, your carpets are going to get cleaned. To some degree at least.

With steam cleaning, there is much less product that needs to be used due to the high temperature steam and the high suction vacuum. The dirt and debris get cleaned, and any bacteria gets killed and removed from the heat and the suction.
The carpets dry much faster with steam cleaning because the amount of water used is very small. Since the water is heated to such a high temperature, the dry time is almost cut in half.
Depending on the professional you chose, there should be NO residue left over afterwards, especially when using steam.
